The Coastal Bend Coaches Association will host the 23rd Annual Hall of Honor of Honor Induction Ceremony January 31st 12 p.m. at the La Vista room on the 10th floor of the Bayfront Plaza Hotel, 601 N. Water Street, Corpus Christi where coach Frank W. Kelley will be inducted into the C.B.C.A. Hall of Honor.
Frank graduated from Aransas Pass high school where he lettered in football and track. After graduating in 1962 he attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville on a football scholarship. He also received a BS degree in secondary education with a major in mathematics and physical education and MS degree in secondary education from Texas A&I.
One of the highpoints of his career was playing on the first Texas A&I Javelinas undefeated team in 1962.
In the fall of 1996 his coaching career started at Elgin High School he coached football, basketball and track. Coach Kelly returned to Texas A&I University in the fall of 1967 as the defensive line coach. In the three years at the University the Javelinas record was 31-3 with three conference championships, one NAIA runner-up National Championship in 1968 and one National Championship in 1969.
The next 34 years he coached football and track at H.M. Kingsville High School (13yrs), Corpus Christi Moody High School (5yrs), Gregory Portland High School (1yr), Calallen High School (8yrs) and Corpus Christi Miller High School (7yrs). The best play off years were 5 semi-finals and 7 regional appearances. In ’79-’80 school year Coach Kelly received the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters track and field coach of the year.
Frank and his wife Alice have been married 43 years and have four children and two grandchildren, Melissa, Trey, Travis and nephew Kelly Randall. Trey and his wife Kendra have two children Scoot and Loren. Coach Kelly and his wife retired in 2003 and reside in Rockport.
