Joanna Schimek and Kelli Treybig have been named A.I.S.D Teachers of the 07-08 Year. Mrs. Schimek and Miss Treybig were nominated for this honor by their peers on campus.
Mrs. Schimek, named the elementary teacher of the year, has been in Anahuac for 29 years. She previously taught grades 3-4-5, and is now teaching Title 1 Math. Mrs. Schimek has 4 children, Taylor, John Thomas, Daniel, and Meredith, and 1 grandchild, Luke. She is married to Ottmar Schimek, a former AHS Band Director, now a General Contractor. “I have loved every minute of teaching in Anahuac, and am teaching the children of students I have taught. I hope I have touched the lives of the children I have taught as much as they have blessed me over the years. I am proud to be a teacher in the fine school district of Anahuac,” Mrs. Schimek told The Progress.
Kelli Treybig, the secondary teacher of the year, has been teaching 7th grade math at Anahuac Middle School for the past 6 years, and has been the head Softball coach for Anahuac High School for 4 years. Kelli came here as a first year teacher right after graduation from Texas A&M University- Kingsville in 2003. She is from Wharton, TX and enjoys reading, fishing, jet skiing, and playing on a women’s softball team out of Houston. Congratulations to both of these wonderful educators!
