Game day for college athletes is sacred.  It's about preparation, concentration, attention to detail and at Texas A&M-Kingsville it’s also about community service.

The Javelina athletics department prides itself on its service to the community and those efforts are ongoing no matter what time of the year.

Saturday, with important Lone Star Conference contests set for that afternoon, both the Javelina baseball and softball teams hosted a  The free clinic was open to elementary school boys and girls.

Players from both teams along with the coaching staffs instructed the participants in the fundamentals of each sport which was followed by an autograph session and free pizza.

That wasn’t the only community service projects going on that week or even that day. Several student athletes were involved with picking up trash around the community in the Kingsville Trash Off and several others were involved in Josh Fest, a fundraiser to provide scholarships for graduates of H.M. King High School in the name of former student Joshua Johnson.

Earlier in the week a group of 20 Javelina football players visit children at the Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi.

All the while the department was hosting a three-game home softball series, a four-game home baseball series and a high school track meet.

It was another great week for Texas A&M-Kingsville Athletics not just because of the games won or lost, but because of the continued spirit of giving that drives Javelina Athletics.
