Wind Symphony to Perform in Corpus Christi

KINGSVILLE (January 27, 2010) — The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Wind Symphony will perform their first concert of the new year on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.  The concert is free and open to the public.

The Wind Symphony, conducted by A&M-Kingsville director of bands Brian Shelton, will perform music from its upcoming performance at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio February 11.

Selections include music from around the world and here in the United States.

Celebration! by African-American composer Adolphus Hailstork is a joyous opener written to commemorate the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976.

Marsch by Marcel Wengler of Luxembourg is an unorthodox and humorous work that turns traditional march conventions inside out.

Extreme Make-over by Dutch composer Johan de Meij is a tour de forcefor concert band and is based on themes by Russian composer Peter Tchaikovsky.

The ensemble will feature the South Texas premiere of the Rondo from Arturo Rodriguez’s Elegy and Rondo. Jon Dexter, cellist for the progressive rock band Distant Lights, will be featured.  In addition, assistant director of bands Dr. Jason Kihle will guest conduct.  It will be a memorable night of music-making.
